Choosing the Right Lens

GXV3601 gxv3662_s gxv3611hd

It is important to choose the correct lens for the GXV IP Camera to ensure that the video quality is at its absolute best.  Listed below are several guidelines to help you select the right lens for your camera.

The lens should match the image sensor

  • The GXV3601 offers interchangeable lenses.  It is essential to select a lens suitable for the image sensor.  The sensor in the GXV3601 is 1/3", so the lens should also be 1/3"

The Lens Mount

  • When changing a lens, it is also important to know what type of lens mount the camera has.  Two main standards are used:
    • CS Mount - the distance between the lens and the sensor is 12.5 mm
    • C Mount - the distance between the lens and the sensor is 17.526 mm
  • The CS mount is more commonly used, to use a C mount a 5mm C/CS adaptor ring is required

Lens Focal Length

  • The GXV3601 supports two major types of lenses:
    • Fixed length - the camera can only have one field of view
    • Varifocal Length - the camera can have multiple fields of view, which can be manually adjusted

Aperture

  • The aperture stop of a lens can be adjusted to control the amount of light reaching the sensor

Depth of field

  • The depth of field is the portion of a scene that appears sharp in the image.  Although a lens can precisely focus at only one distance, the decrease in sharpness is gradual on either side of the focus point.  The depth of field is determined by the object distance, focal length and aperture
